Online matchmaking adventures can be both baffling and exhilarating, as you navigate through the endless sea of profiles and personalities in search of your perfect match. It’s all about finding that needle in the haystack, that one person who tickles your fancy just right.
Like many others, I too started my online matchmaking journey with a mix of excitement and apprehension. I was ready to put myself out there and see what the world had to offer. But boy, was I in for a ride.
The first hurdle in my online matchmaking adventure came when I realized how difficult it was to make a solid connection with someone who shared similar interests. Sure, there were plenty of matches for me to choose from – but getting to know them beyond their profile picture proved to be quite daunting.
That’s when I decided to shift my strategy and start approaching these matches armed with interesting ice-breakers and questions. After all, no one wants to be caught discussing mundane topics like “how’s the weather”, right?
So instead, during one conversation with a match who described himself as an avid traveler, I asked him if he had any tips for trekking around Southeast Asia (a place on my bucket list). Not only did his enthusiastic response lead us on an hour-long chat about our favorite travel destinations; but also gave me keen insights about his personality and interests which clicked instantly!
It was such moments that gave me hope: that despite having countless failed conversations where things didn’t ‘click’, there were still exciting possibilities waiting around every corner.
Next up on my list were dates – more specifically virtual ones thanks (or no thanks) Covid-19 took away physical dates from us . And let’s face it: virtual dating isn’t everyone’s cup of tea – it comes with its own unique set of challenges! From finding the right spot at home where family noise or awkwardly placed objects are not impediments; looking presentable after being in pajamas for days , and adjusting to video delays! But despite the challenges, online dating opened up new avenues to get to know people from different backgrounds, cultures, and corners of the world.
One of my most memorable virtual dates was set up by a mutual friend who thought we’d be perfect for each other. We had an hour-long phone conversation which led me to realize that he seemed well-spoken, humorous and overall quite agreeable. So I agreed on a Zoom date – our first meeting where we could put faces against those nicely written bio descriptions.
Despite technical glitches that hindered our immersive experience briefly; it turned out to be one of the best conversations I’ve ever had! It was such a joy connecting with someone whose company you truly enjoy even virtually – we ended up having our remaining dates virtually until Covid rules became more relaxed. Such were moments when I realized how much technology contributed not only toward getting people closer but while inspiring lasting relationships
But not all adventures have happy endings – even in online matchmaking land! There were definitely instances where things fizzled out before they even began or just after a few interactions. From personality differences to scheduling conflicts at times it just didn’t work out!
The worst case scenario came about when I discovered someone who was completely fraudulent – pretending being someone else (including using fake photos) and having i-donno-what perverted agenda ! It was such an unnerving experience but thankfully after some research into background check tools offered by different apps/websites – I learned how catfishing works and decided never become one of its victims again (recommend every person reading this do the same!)
That’s why it’s important not take everything too seriously during your online matchmaking journey; be prepared for any kind of adventures along the way – fun, scary or boring.One always learns something on their way towards there goal;
What matters is taking risks with open-mindedness knowing full well that not every match is going to be an instantaneousclick. But once you find someone who sparks that interest, never let them go without a sincere effort! Happy matchmaking adventures!
